Fertilizers that promote the natural balance of carbon and nitrogen produce healthier plants, healthier soils and a sustainable environment. Unlike purely chemical fertilizers and traditional amendments, JTM uses a process called Carbon Fertilization to unlock exceptional growth potential in the soil by fueling it with stable organic carbon.
Time has been of the essence over the past year as demand for goods outstripped supply, forcing shippers to order more than they needed. Now that consumer demand is waning, companies find themselves with more inventory than they can handle. The national Outbound Tender Volume Index (OTVI) has dropped 12% over the past year and 14% over the past month while loaded intermodal volumes (ORAILL) are trending higher. Could shippers be using the bottlenecks around ports and railheads and a slower transit time from intermodal to decrease their inventory costs? There is no denying that intermodal is not experiencing the same decline in demand as its truckload counterpart. Even though these two modes tend to move in relative sync with each other, that has not been the case for most of the past year.
Sustainable lithium extraction is in the eyes of the United States to compete better; specially as it is trying to speed up the decarbonization of its transportation sector; particularly, through the widespread development of electric vehicles. Firstly, according to an S&P Report, a trend in sustainable lithium investments, and other sustainable lithium recovery technologies will be key in the U.S. energy sector, industry experts interviewed agreed. Secondly, as the United States has less lithium resources than other major producers like China; or other countries like Chile, advancing in such technology will be critical for the U.S. Chris Berry, an independent lithium analyst and president of House Mountain Partners, said. “What we need to do in this country is not just bring more material on stream but do so more sustainably. Otherwise, it’s self-defeating.”
When it comes to hitting the 2030 targets underpinning the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals, considering risk alone will not cut it. Larry Fink’s recent emphasis on climate change risks and divesting in coal is significant, albeit a few decades late, but what about opportunities? And what about other sustainable development issues that threaten to bring businesses down? Unless businesses change what they do and how they do it, the goals will not be achieved.
Looking to lower its environmental impact at sea, MSC Cruises has taken measures to reduce its single use plastics both on its ships and ashore. Plastic straws were the first to go and have been replaced by compostable and biodegradable substitutes.
