Over 6 000 electric vehicles (battery electric and plug-in hybrid EVs) will be shipped to Sub-Saharan Africa this year, up from 4 796 units in 2021. This is according to the Forecast Analysis: Electric Vehicle Shipments, Worldwide report compiled by research firm Gartner. It provides insights into the global EV market, unpacking opportunities and lingering challenges faced by manufacturers in the market. Despite a slowdown linked to the COVID-19 pandemic, the global EV sales market did fairly well in 2021, with 1.63 million shipments, compared to 1.24 million units shipped in 2020.

Call for Proposals: ‘Recommendations from Life Cycle Assessment studies of single-use plastic bags and their alternatives’ The Life Cycle Initiative is issuing a Call for Proposals for a project that aims to show how Life Cycle Assessment can lead to informed policy decision-making following the example of single-use plastic bags and its alternatives. Dr Anne Velenturf (Research Impact Fellow in Circular Economy and Offshore Wind at the University of Leeds) explores the findings of a recent workshop discussing new “circular” business opportunities in offshore wind.
The University of Leeds is running the project A Sustainable Circular Economy for Offshore Wind, which is co-funded by EPSRC, the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult and the Department for International Trade. The project aims to start integrating circular economy practices into the design, operation and end-of-use management of offshore wind infrastructure.
