Helping Europe achieve a circular economy transition

, Helping Europe achieve a circular economy transition, TheCircularEconomy.com EIT Climate-KIC, EIT RawMaterials, EIT Digital, EIT Food, EIT Manufacturing and EIT Urban Mobility have created a Cross-Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) action aiming to strengthen the collaboration of their activities related to the circular economy.

A coordinated and efficient collaboration between the different KICs will help the EU achieve its Circular Economy Action Plan.

The initiative aims to establish discussions among the KICs to find ways to develop a joint offer around circular economy and improve coordination with the Commission on this issue. It will also strengthen collaboration with other relevant stakeholders, support the European Institute of Technology in discussions with the Directorate-General for the Environment of the European Commission and facilitate the access to markets for innovative solutions developed in participating KICs.

Best Denki, COURTS, Gain City and Harvey Norman Join RENEW in E-waste Recycling Effort

Top retailers, Best Denki, COURTS, Gain City and Harvey Norman, has joined RENEW and to place E-waste recycling bins in retails store. In the collaboration agreement, seven COURTS stores, five Best Denki and Gain City stores each and three Harvey Norman stores will place the RENEW bins.

With its infinite life cycle, copper is a truly circular material that can be recycled over and over with no loss of its physical properties. With a global shift toward renewable resources and decarbonization, copper will play a key role in sustainable development. International Copper Association (ICA) members are invested in circular practices to meet future demand, close copper’s loop and increase recycling rates. Each person generates 270 kilograms, or 595 pounds, of waste annually. By 2050, experts expect this figure to grow 70 percent. That is more than double the population growth in the same period! Copper’s recyclability contributes to resource conservation, urban mining and recycling initiatives. Recycled copper already meets 35 percent of global copper demand. The current global end-of-life recycling rate for copper is 40 percent. In some parts of the world, such as the EU, China and Japan, more than half of all copper is recycled after use.
