Key West bans single-use plastic straws
The Key West City Commission on Tuesday, Aug. 20, voted to ban the use of single-use plastic straws, starting in 2020.
Defra Moves Forward With Deposit Return Scheme
A deposit return scheme intended to increase recycling rates and “slash the amount of waste polluting our land and seas” will be introduced in England, subject to consultation later this year, it was confirmed by Defra today. UK consumers go through an estimated 13bn plastic drinks bottles a year, but more than 3bn aren’t being recycled, with some ending up as litter on the streets and in the marine environment.
