School hopes to phase out single-use plastics

Auto suppliers told U.S. lawmakers on Tuesday they opposes setting a firm date to end the sale of new gasoline-powered passenger cars and warned that a quick shift to all electric vehicles could cost thousands of jobs. California said in September it planned to end sales of new gasoline-powered passenger vehicles by 2035.

Sustainability is increasingly becoming a key area for businesses to address and with climate change getting too obvious to ignore, regulators are becoming stricter as well as customers, employees, and investors.

We are in the midst of a plastic crisis. Plastic pollutes at every stage of its lifecycle from when the oil and gas is extracted to produce it, to the end products that litter our streets, pollute our beaches and harm our wildlife.

The amount of resources currently exploited is four times more than it was half a century ago, according to the 2019 report of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).   The bad news is that the amount of natural resources used is still increasing rapidly. The Global Footprint Network estimates that humans are currently using 60 per cent more resources than what the Earth can renew.
