Nordson Corporation is to acquire NDC Technologies, a supplier of measurement and process control solutions, from Spectris. The acquisition expands Nordson’s test and inspection platform into new end markets and adjacent technologies. The all-cash transaction, subject to customary post-closing adjustments, is valued at $180 million.

They will bring exciting new capabilities and expertise to our test and inspection platform,” said Jeffrey Pembroke, executive vice president of Nordson Advanced Technology Solutions. “NDC’s customer-centric business model, differentiated technology and end markets make it a very Nordson-like business. This acquisition is further progress on our Nordson Ascend Strategy to achieve top-tier growth with leading margins and returns.”
Fashion chain Zara is set to switch all collections to 100% “sustainable” fabrics by the start of 2025. The majority of high-street clothes are currently made from textile blends, which are hard to recycle and commonly contain fossil-fuel-derived content. The commitment will see Zara remove all synthetic fibres made using fossil fuels removed from its clothing, shoe and accessory lines – a commitment that also covers the inclusion of such content in notoriously hard-to-recycle textile blends. In tandem, efforts will be made to source a greater proportion of “renewable” natural fabrics such as cotton, linen and hemp from sources certified as sustainable. A 100% sustainable sourcing target has been set for viscose. Once the switch is made for Zara, parent company Inditex will implement measures to help its other owned brands to follow suit. The firm is notably the third-largest apparel retailer in the world and also owns Pull&Bear, Massimo Dutti, Zara Home and Bershka.
Speaking at Facilities Show in May, co-located with IFSEC International, Ozge Celik Russell, Senior Analyst, Omdia, presented on how the smart building market is moving forwards since a pause in investment in the pandemic, adding that security will play a significant part in its evolution. Julian Hall reports. For clarity, Ozge opened up the presentation by defining the term ‘smart buildings’ – being those that deliver building services through control systems that manage building operations, known as Building Management Systems (BMS). A BMS is a single, centralised or distributed platform that acts as the building’s artificial intelligence. These systems aggregate data from equipment and sensors across many building domains and identify trends in building use and operations, acting upon the data through programmed sequential algorithms in order to reduce energy consumption, provide security and improve occupant comfort.
