The new Lotus Emira ends a sports car era in the best possible way
Lotus may be embracing electrification but the British automaker is giving combustion engines a fitting send-off, with the 2022 Lotus Emira promising supercar focus with sports car pricing. Unveiled today, the Emira may be the last of the gas-only Lotus models, but it taps the automaker’s newest platforms and tech. That means the Lotus Sports Car Architecture underneath, and a choice of two gas engines – including one new to Lotus, from partner Mercedes-AMG – delivering the performance. AMG’s 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four will be the standard drivetrain, while the 3.5-liter V6 from long-standing partner Toyota will be the upgrade.

Carbon is the backbone of life on earth and the fossil fuels that have resulted from the demise of ancient life. Carbon is the essential ingredient for turning iron into steel, which underlies technologies from medieval swords to skyscrapers and submarines. And strong, lightweight carbon fibers are used in cars, planes and windmills. Even just carbon on its own is extraordinarily adaptable: It is the only ingredient in (among other things) diamonds, buckyballs and graphite (the stuff used to make pencil lead).

Today I’m showcasing a modern louvered pavilion I’ve developed, set up with some guest facilities as a food court.
