ING has acted as joint sustainability coordinator together with Santander in the largest sustainability-linked revolving credit facility (RCF) ever issued. The $10.1 billion RCF for Belgian-based multinational drinks and brewing company Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev) is provided by a consortium of 26 leading global financial institutions. In addition to being the largest sustainability-linked loan (SLL) ever, it is also the first for a publicly listed company in the alcohol and beverage sector. The milestone facility has a five-year term and includes a pricing mechanism that incentivises improvement in four key performance areas that are aligned with AB InBev’s sustainability goals:

Sustainability has gained traction—and rightfully so—with individuals and businesses alike. And while your personal purchasing habits and environmentally friendly behaviors are nice (keep doing your part!), compared to the scale and impact of businesses, they don’t make as big a dent. Just think about the transit miles to support the millions of products shipped every year from all over the globe, compared to your couple dozen trips to the local grocery store.

The US Plastics Pact — a consortium launched in August by The Recycling Partnership and World Wildlife Fund (WWF), as part of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s global Plastics Pact Network — unveiled an aggressive national strategy to ensure all plastic packaging will be reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025. Roadmap to 2025 is supported by nearly 100 corporations, startups, research entities, NGOs, universities, and state and local governments across the plastics packaging value chain; and includes mandatory reporting and specific timeframes for realizing meaningful and targeted outcomes for a truly circular plastics economy.
