Women are responsible for half of the world’s food production; in most developing countries, women produce between 60 and 80% of food. Yet they own just a fraction of the land on which they live and work. This week at COP27, where food security and gender are high priorities, I spoke with Esther Mwaura Muiru, global advocacy director at the Stand for Her Land campaign and Dan Glickman, former United States secretary of agriculture. They shared unique insights, based on their expansive advocacy and policy careers, on how women’s land rights and supportive policies can bolster climate resilience, food security, and sustainability in communities.
The Town of Bridgewater wants to know what kind of renewable energy excites you! We are doing a study to determine what kind of renewable energy such as solar, wind, hydro, or bioenergy would make the lowest cost and most reliable energy for Bridgewater. There will be several opportunities over the next several months to tell us what kind of clean energy future you want for Bridgewater. To learn more about the different kinds renewable energy our community can choose, tune into the Town of Bridgewater’s Facebook page tonight (Tuesday, September 29) at 6:30pm.
For the sustainable development of humanity, future efforts are necessary to develop effective technologies to reduce fossil fuels. Solar-driven hydrogen production from water splitting can be an attractive way to supply clean energy. However, the efficiency of the water splitting is limited by the reaction at the anode. Therefore Qiuhua Liang investigated some promising anode materials that may help improve the efficiency of the water splitting. The reaction that takes place at the anode is called oxygen evolution reaction (OER), which is often regarded as the main bottleneck in water splitting because it is a so-called four-electron transfer process. The efficiency of the OER relies heavily on the anode material. Qiuhua Liang found some anode materials that may increase the efficiency of the OER.
In the project CECI partners from six regions aim to provide better possibilities for their citizen to adopt new circular and sharing economy solutions.
New and innovative service-based solutions are at the forefront of the circular economy transition. For the circular economy transition to emerge at scale, trade and trade policy will be in a key role in facilitating the global spread of new circular economy businesses and solutions, also providing new jobs and livelihoods.
